Grunge was born from Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Grunge was most popular in the early 90s.
Grunge is an older music genre than most than I have metioned, yet it is still really good.
I'm going to talk about different grunge bands that I like and stories behind them.
Soundgarden
Fronted by the beautiful Chris Cornell, Soundgarden is from Seattle (duh, it's the Seattle sound). Soundgarden started in the 80s, and their big debut was in 1989 with "Louder Than Love." In the 2000s, the band was doing different things, including Chris touring with the band Audioslave. But in 2011, the band started making music again. I'm dying to see them live, 'cause who knows how long they're gonna last?
Good songs: Black Hole Sun, Fell On Black Days, Spoonman, The Day I Tried To Live, My Wave, Superunknown, Black Rain, Kickstand, and 4th of July.
Alice In Chains
Alice In Chains is another big grunge band formed in Seattle. They're really popular in the 90s. I just remember playing their songs on Guitar Hero a lot as a kid. Their music was also on a video game I used to play.
Good songs: Man In A Box, Down In A Hole, Nutshell, Check My Brain, Rooster, Your Decision, Would?, and Them Bones.
Nirvana
Nirvana was THE big grunge band. They brought grunge to the mainstream scene. Nirvana was such in influential of a band in so many different genres. Sadly, Kurt Cobain (vocals) suffered from heavy drug abuse and depression. He commited suicide in 1994, though his music lives on. I really wish he were alive today to see how big an impact his music made on the world.
Good songs: Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, Heart Shaped Box, About A Girl, Lithium, Polly, On A Plain, Dumb, Pennyroyal Tea, and All Apologies.
Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam is sometimes called "the most popular rock 'n' roll band of the 90s." Fronted by Eddie Vedder, the band did so many good thinks for grunge and even alternative rock in general. My dad is always claiming he knows the guitarist, Stone Gossard, but I don't know if he really does..
Good songs: Even Flow, Black, Better Man, Go, Animal, Daughter, Glorified G, W.M.A., Rats, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, and Leash.
Those are really all the grunge bands that I know a lot about. I love grunge, and definitely recommend it to anyone who likes anything hardcore or alternative.
